Mylar Bag Size Planner (Foundation)
This is a foundation page, not a working calculator. It records the planned inputs for a future Mylar Bag Size Planner: target food weight, product density, bag dimensions and headspace. The planner is not yet available, and no capacity tables are invented here: for now, weigh your food and choose your bags with the Mylar bags guide.
The Planned Inputs
A bag size planner is really a volume question: the target food weight, the food's density, the bag's usable dimensions and the headspace you want determine whether a bag fits.
- Target food weight: the net weight you plan to put in each package, in the unit you package in.
- Product density: how compactly the dry food fills a volume. Powder packs far denser than whole fruit pieces, and the same weight needs very different bag sizes.
- Bag dimensions: usable internal width and length after sealing, which is smaller than the bag's printed size.
- Headspace: the air you want left for sealing, absorber action and cushioning, so the package does not burst or bruise the food.
Why It Is Not Available Yet
Density is the hard part: freeze-dried foods are irregular, settle as they are handled, and do not pack like a liquid. A planner needs real measured fill data for common foods before it can claim anything, and until that data exists, a table of "bag X holds Y grams" would look precise while being guesswork. This site does not fake that precision.
Until It Ships
The practical approach today: weigh your target portion, fill your candidate bag, check the headspace with the bag closed, and write down what worked for each food. The Mylar bags guide covers selection, sealing and sizing trade-offs.
