Costs & Pricing
Cost per Finished Product
Once you know the total cost of a batch, this tool shares it across the finished dry weight: the cost per gram, per 100 g, per kilogram, per ounce and per pound. For example, a $100 batch that yields 5 kg of freeze-dried product costs $20 per dry kilogram.
What This Tool Does
It divides a total batch cost by the finished dry weight and reports the same cost in five different units, so you can quote, compare or price in whatever unit your market uses.

What the Result Means
Each line is the same cost expressed in a different unit: the number to compare against a market price, to quote per kilogram wholesale, or to check that a package size leaves room for margin. The math is a simple division, so the quality of the answer depends entirely on the quality of the total cost and the dry weight you weigh out at the end of the run.
The Formula
- Cost per Gram = Total Batch Cost ÷ Dry Weight in g
- Cost per 100 g = Cost per Gram × 100
- Cost per Kilogram = Cost per Gram × 1000
- Cost per Ounce = Cost per Gram × 28.3495
- Cost per Pound = Cost per Gram × 453.592
Important Limitations
- The total cost must include everything you want in the unit cost: product, electricity, packaging, labor, maintenance and waste, or the answer is optimistic.
- Weight the finished dry food before packaging; weight lost to powder, breakage or sampling is part of the real cost picture.
- This is a cost, not a price: it says nothing about margin or what the market will pay. Use the Margin & Selling Price Calculator for pricing.
