What the Result Means
The total packaging weight is what the packaging itself contributes when you ship, weigh or store packaged product: add it to the net food weight to predict gross weight. It is also a small but real cost- and waste-planning number: knowing your absorber weight per box of 40 packages tells you how much consumable weight you move and eventually discard.
The Formula
- Total Bag Weight = Number of Packages × Bag Weight
- Total Absorber Weight = Number of Packages × Absorber Weight
- Total Label Weight = Number of Packages × Label Weight (when entered)
- Total Packaging Weight = Total Bags + Total Absorbers + Total Labels
Important Limitations
- Packaging weights vary slightly between bags, absorbers and labels: this is an estimate from the sample weight you entered, not a weighed total.
- Gross weight also includes the shipping carton, tape and any inserts; those are not part of this tool.
- A number of packages of zero is not allowed: enter the actual count you plan to fill.
