Starting Water Estimate
All water amounts on this page are starting estimates, not tested ratios. Add liquid gradually, stir or rest, and adjust to the texture you want.
- Add the water to the pouch, stir, seal, and let it rest in a cozy or jacket while you set up camp.
- Check after 10 minutes: if centers are still firm, add a splash of hot water and let it rest longer.
- Label the rehydration time as an estimate: it varies with altitude, water temperature and piece size.
Serving
One pouch per hungry hiker; portion by your own appetite and trip length.
Storage
Pouches must be sealed against moisture before the trip. On trail, keep them dry in your pack; rehydrated meals are perishable and should be eaten promptly.
Storage depends on your packaging, dryness and conditions. See the Storage Center and the packaging guides for honest shelf-life guidance; no shelf-life claim is made on this page.
Notes
Calorie planning is kept general here: plan portions to your own trip needs without performance claims. Freeze-dried meals are light because water is removed; the trail weight is roughly the dry weight plus your fuel and water.
